About the Panel 关于讲研会

自LAISS成立以来，我们为满足参与同学的需求不断调整授课互动方式。受到新冠疫情影响，我们与2021年暑假首次采用线上平台，为相隔千里的师生搭建沟通的桥梁。由于名额有限，只有少部分申请者得以体验两周紧凑而充实的课程生活。应广大同学要求，响应开放教育、公开研讨的号召，2022年暑期LAISS形式再次创新：我们将邀请三位阿默斯特学院终身教授，于8月的第二周（8月8日至12日）举办向全体有意同学及教育者免费开放LAISS夏日讲研会。研讨会面向所有有志于文理教育、并希望通过学术讨论增进文化交流的人士。

今年的讲研会将融合讲座和采访形式，以“一题多解”为宗旨，以“民族传说”(national myth)为核心开放古典学、俄罗斯文学和拉丁美洲历史的三节讲座，从史学、文学、社会学等多个角度了解国家与文化的形成。这三节讲座将从不同学科的角度去解析一个更大更广的议题，让参加者更深刻地体验文理教育所强调的跨学科（interdisciplinary）、开放思维、融会贯通的核心意义。为了加强参加者与教授的有机互动，每节讲座后将留充足时间给问答环节。三节讲座后，教授们将一同讨论讲座的内容，并且接受关于文理教育的采访。LAISS同时安排阿默斯特学院招生办公室举行线上宣讲，同样为有志者开放。

本次LAISS讲研会将代替往年所开设的两周课程。项目结束后，我们将在公众号收集匿名反馈，评估创新形式的效果。我们将始终致力于提升所有参与同学的体验，并充分利用所有资源完善LAISS的课程体系与活动架构。我们期待在不远的未来，LAISS能延续小班授课、跨文化交流的传统，以崭新的面貌与大家线下相见。

Since its founding in 2013, the LAISS team has sought to innovate the form of liberal-arts colloquial discussion to meet participating students’ needs. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we hosted the well-reputed LAISS classes virtually for the first time in the summer of 2021, having built a bridge between professors and students across the oceans. Constrained by the limited number of students each class can take, only a fraction of applicants had the opportunity to experience two weeks of the intensive and fulfilling program. To broaden participation in response to the call for “open education and seminars,” the LAISS team decided to innovate the form again in the summer of 2022. We will invite three tenured professors of Amherst College to join the panels in the second week of August (August 8 to 12 ET). LAISS 2022 panels will be free of charge and open to all interested students and educators. The panels invite all those who are interested in liberal arts education and wish to enhance cultural exchange through academic discussions.

LAISS Panel 2022 will combine lectures and discussions virtually, seeking multiple perspectives on one theme– “The National Myth”– with three panels on classics, Russian literature, and Latin American history. Professors also orient the panels from literature, sociology, anthropology, and other disciplines to introduce and discuss the conceptual formation of the country, culture, and civilization. These three panels will allow participants to glimpse into the interdisciplinary, open, and focused colloquy that liberal arts education emphasizes. We reserve sufficient time for Q&A after each lecture. After the three lectures, the professors will share their unique encounters with and perspectives on liberal arts education. The concluding panel on Amherst College invites the associate director of admissions at Amherst College to give an information session for those seeking advice on application.

This LAISS panel will replace the two-week course offered in previous years. After the panels conclude, we will collect anonymous feedback on the official account to evaluate the effectiveness of the panels. We will strive to improve the experience of all participating students and make full use of our available resources to improve the curricular structure of LAISS. We expect that in the near future, LAISS will continue the tradition of small-class colloquy and cross-cultural communication in person.
